If you’re an avid reader like myself, you’re usually always saying two things in regards to book to screen adaptations. 1) “The book was better.” 2) “I’m waiting to watch that show/film until I read the book.” I can’t tell you how many shows and films I haven’t seen yet because I haven’t read the book(s) yet. If you also deal with this, Netflix might just have the answer for you!

Netflix recently announced they’re hosting a monthly book club, perfectly titled: Netflix Book Club with Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black). Each month, a new book will be selected that pertains to an upcoming Netflix original movie/series. Conversations with authors, cast, and creators will be had each month discussing the page to screen adaptation, and more!

The social series titled But Have You Read the Book? will premiere on the Still Watching Netflix Youtube Channel and Netflix US Facebook channel on November 16th.

The book selected for November is Passing, Nella Larsen’s Harlem Renaissance-era novel, following the story of “two Black women who can pass as white and choose to live on opposite sides of the color line in 1929 New York.” The book selection coincides with the upcoming Netflix original film of the same name on November 10th starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga.

All information pertaining to the book club, book selection, and previous Netflix book to screen adaptations can be found at the official Netflix Book Club website.
