As the season two finale nears, I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking, “hopefully this series gets renewed for another season.” With the final episode of season two called “Revolution – Part 1,” one can hope. Well, we received that news and it was rather bittersweet.
Freeform has renewed Motherland: Fort Salem for a third and final season. While the final season aspect isn’t totally what we want to hear, we can take this early renewal as a way for each storyline featured to be wrapped up and all questions answered.
In regards to the renewal, creator and showrunner, Eliot Laurence, said the following in a statement:
“Every time we get to dive back into the world of Motherland: Ford Salem, it’s a pleasure and an honor. I can’t wait to bring season three to the world. We plan to ramp up the insane stakes of the finale with an epic, scary, satisfying ride, all the while getting deeper into witch’s ancient origins. We are so grateful to Freeform for the opportunity, and to our fans — your love is palpable, wait till you see what we have in store.”
Freeform President Tara Duncan is “excited to bring Motherland: Fort Salem back for a third season. They have created a truly immersive mythology that has resonated with fans since day one, and I know this last chapter will continue to deliver.”
As mentioned above, the second season finale of the witchy drama airs tonight at 10/9c on Freeform, with the third season expected to air in 2022.
What are your thoughts on the renewal and final season news? While I’m glad we know ahead of time and the writers and crew have tons of time to wrap all the storylines up, I can’t help but wonder if this is Freeform’s doing or the showrunner’s?
