Archewell Productions + Netflix Developing Animated Series That Will Celebrate Women’s Stories & History

Archewell Productions and Netflix have announced that they are developing a new animated series called Pearl (working title). Created by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and inspired by a variety of influential women from history, the show will center around a 12-year-old girl named Pearl who is on a journey of self-discovery.

“Animation is the perfect medium to bring this fun, heartfelt, and inspiring story to life. Pearl is a character in which everyone will recognize a piece of themselves while absolutely rooting for her as she discovers so much about the world, both past and present, and how she fits into it. I am thrilled to be working with Meghan and such an illustrious team,” says Carolyn Soper, one of the show’s executive producers.

Joining The Duchess of Sussex and David Furnish (Rocketman, Gnomeo & Juliet) at the helm are Executive Producer Carolyn Soper (Sherlock Gnomes, Tangled) and Story Syndicate Co-Founders and Filmmakers Liz Garbus (I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, What Happened, Miss Simone?) and Dan Cogan (Icarus, The Apollo). DC Super Hero Girls and The Loud House‘s Amanda Rynda will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Founded by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Pearl will be Archewell Productions’ first animated series and second production title.
