The first teaser trailer for the upcoming season of The Witcher has been released.
During the inaugural WitcherCon, a virtual fan event co-hosted by Netflix and CD Projekt Red, fans of the show were given an abundance of information about the main show as well as the live-action and animated spin-offs. In addition to the teaser trailer, the poster and the release date for season two were also revealed.
The second season picks up where the first one left off, with Geralt of Rivia finally crossing paths with Princess Cirilla of Cintra, the child of destiny he is meant to protect. As they continue their journey together, they learn more about Ciri’s dangerous powers. Meanwhile, the trailer also reveals that Yennefer of Vengerberg survived the fatal Battle of Sodden. When she and Geralt will meet again, however, is anyone’s guess at this point.
Season two will see the return of main cast members Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), Freya Allan (Ciri), and Joey Batey (Jaskier) but they will also be joined by new members: Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, an older witcher who also acts as a mentor for Geralt; Paul Bullion as Lambert, a witcher who has a personal involvement in Ciri’s training at Kaer Morhen; Adjoa Andoh as Nenneke, another mentor and mother figure for Geralt; and Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, a spymaster who is steeped in villainy.
Other new cast members for Season 2 include Simon Callow and Liz Carr as Codringher and Fenn, respectively, as well as Chris Fulton as Rience, Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, a leader of the Lodge of Sorceresses, and Kevin Doyle as Ba’lian.
Here is the official synopsis of the season:
“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
The Witcher season two will premiere on December 17 on Netflix.
