REVIEW: Motherland: Fort Salem – 2.02: “Abomination”

Me? Member of the Spree? *nervous laughter*

We’ve heard about the elusive War College and finally in this episode, we get the chance to see it! If you’re looking for a new magic school to fawn over and happen to love the dark academia aesthetic, War College is for you! “Abomination” was the perfect setup of Motherland: Fort Salem‘s new location, and I really hope we continue to see more of it.

“At this point the only people I trust are you two.”: It’s the Bellweather unit’s first day at War College! In typical “first day of school” fashion, the following occurs: we meet potential new friends (or foes), M and Gregorio, rumors fly about the infamous Bellweather unit as gossip does, and our witches attend their first set of classes. Just like our schooling right? Well if your school nearly maims you in an Off Canon class, that is. Okay, I’ll admit, I love a good “first day of school” episode and even the day itself when I was in school. And I think the show did a marvelous job at setting up a unique but very different situation for the students. I think I’m personally most interested to seeing how these classes will continue to take shape and how the witches will use these skills in eventual battle. I think honestly even just seeing these classes alone has me falling in love with the school. Makes me want to venture to this school rather than a certain other popular magic school. What are your thoughts on the school so far?

“Is there anything human left in her?”: We have a new alliance and I am so here for it! In this episode it seems to be one year since the pilot episode’s Spree attack at the mall, done so by Scylla. Seeing the now withered down Scylla slowly walking through the mall with the victims’ families and signs was so powerful! Equally as powerful was seeing Anacostia take the stage, posing as a related family member of the attack. Seeing Anacostia directly talk to Scylla in her speech let me know that Scylla and Anacostia will be a force to be reckoned with! The pair meet a human couple that just may or may not be working with the Camarilla. I feel like it’s apparent this season that it’s filled with unlikely alliances, but I think that’s exactly what’s needed! It also doesn’t hurt that the pair have chemistry (am I shipping just about every pair on this show, except Talder? Yes, yes I am.). I think both Anacostia and Scylla are the perfect alliance because I feel like they’re so similar in very different ways. How do you think they’ll fair this season?

“What do you mean people are shipping Tally/Alder? Rude, we’re right here!”

“Someone’s trying to hide her existence.”: Similar to the premiere, although a lot less intense, we continue to see these flashback focused dreams of Alder from Tally. The whole thing is very Xena: Warrior Princess if you ask me. I think when these dreams first became known all of us were wondering “what does this mean for Tally?” And yes, even Alder. But I think it’s so much more than that. The dreams heavily focus on Alder and her, for lack of better word, partner (but yes, I ship them). It’s clear that her partner has incredible power. But her name and any record of her is unknown, as Tally finds out at the end. My theory? That this is either the mycelium (although given what we know of Raelle’s new abilities, I’m hesitant) or the first Biddy known? But then there’s the aspect of keeping her hidden. And she wasn’t old. So could this person be the founder of the Spree? Regardless, we have so many questions and with Tally’s connection in the mix, I’m even more curious about it.
