Good Omens renewed for season 2

Good Omens season 2Good Omens will be returning for a second season on Amazon Prime as the streaming service made the order for the comedy fantasy series.

According to a report by Variety, the second season will have six episodes and will begin filming in Scotland later this year but no premiere date has been confirmed.

Good Omens is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and the late Sir Terry Pratchett. Although they never got to write the sequel before Pratchett passed away, the two authors had discussed how the story would continue.

Gaiman said:

“It’s thirty-one years since Good Omens’ was published, which means it’s thirty-two years since Terry Pratchett and I lay in our respective beds in a Seattle hotel room at a World Fantasy Convention, and plotted the sequel. I got to use bits of the sequel in Good Omens — that’s where our angels came from. Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next.”

The show stars Michael Sheen as Aziraphale and David Tennant as Crowley, an angel and a demon trying to stop the apocalypse.

Amazon revealed that season 2 would see the angel and demon living among mortals in London’s Soho “when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.”

Sheen said:

“Personally I’m against it, but the world isn’t going to just save itself, is it? If David and I can manage to not fall out too badly this time it may even have a chance of getting finished.”

Tennant said:

“The return of Good Omens is great news for me, personally. As I get to work with Michael again, and I get to say Neil’s wonderful words once more. It’s probably less good for the universe as it almost certainly means there will be some fresh existential threat to its existence to deal with, but, you know – swings and roundabouts.”

After Good Omens season one ended in 2019, Sheen and Tennant have continued to collaborate. Last May 2020, they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the book’s publication with a quarantine mini episode. They then went on to star in two seasons of the quarantine comedy Staged where they played exaggerated versions of themselves dealing with the tedium of lockdown. We watched seasons one and two of Staged and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
