Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story‘s teaser trailer premiered during the 93rd Academy Awards on Sunday, April 25th. Have you seen it yet?

West Side Story originally made its Broadway debut at the Winter Garden Theatre on September 26, 1957. The production was led by Arthur Laurents (book), Leonard Bernstein (music), Stephen Sondheim (lyrics), and Jerome Robbins (direction and choreography) and follows the forbidden love story of Tony and Maria. They’re members of two different rival gangs (Jets and Sharks) whose relationship isn’t originally encouraged.

Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, the new movie adaptation will star Ansel Elgort as Tony, Rachel Zegler as Maria, Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, Mike Faist as Riff, Josh Andres Rivera as Chino, Ana Isabelle as Rosalia, Corey Stoll as Lieutenant Schrank, Brian d’Arcy James as Officer Krupke, and Rita Moreno as Valentina (who owns the store where Tony works). Moreno is not only an original returning cast member but also serves as one of the film’s executive producers.
