The Witcher prequel series Blood Origin has cast Jodie Turner-Smith as one of its leads.
According to a report by Variety, Turner-Smith (known for starring in Queen & Slim) will portray a warrior named Éile who has an intriguing background and seems destined for an epic journey. The character is described as “blessed with the voice of a goddess and leaves her clan and role as the queen’s guardian to follow her heart and embark on a journey as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.”
As previously reported, Declan de Barra will be executive producer and show runner while The Witcher show runner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will serve as executive producer and the franchise creator Andrzej Sapkowski will be the creative consultant on the series.
The official description of the series is as follows:
“Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”
This will not be the only spinoff Netflix produces of the fantasy series. Previously, Netflix announced an animated spin-off film titled The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, which will explore the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow Witcher Vesemir.
So far filming on the second season of The Witcher continues in the U.K. and no premiere date has been released for Blood Origin so far, which is set to film in the U.K. as well. But the pandemic continues to cause delays in production for all new shows.
Both shows will be premiering sometime soon on Netflix. Watch this space for more updates.
