Captain Jack is back! At least for the Doctor Who holiday special.

Variety reports that John Barrowman will be reprising his role as the iconic, time-traveling captain in the special episode.

The character made his first appearance on the show way back in 2005 during the first season of the show and with the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston). He then became a recurring character on the series through the years and even starred in his own spinoff series, Torchwood. His latest appearance was in a cameo role in the season twelve episode “Fugitive of Judoon” where he met the Doctor’s companions and asked them to relay a message to her. The special will mark his first encounter with the Thirteenth Doctor.

The special, titled Revolution of the Daleks, will see Captain Jack joining forces with the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her companions (Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, and Bradley Walsh) as they try and foil a devious plan by the Doctor’s enemies, the Daleks. But with the Doctor locked up in space prison, it will be up to Captain Jack to save the earth once more.

Barrowman said:

“Putting on Jack’s coat and setting foot back on the set of Doctor Who was just like going back home. It’s always thrilling to play Captain Jack. He’s a character very close to my heart who changed my life, and to know the fans love him as much as I do makes his return even sweeter. I hope everyone enjoys Jack’s heroic adventure with Thirteen.”

Executive producer Chris Chibnall added:

“A Doctor Who holiday special means treats galore, and there’s no bigger treat than the return of John Barrowman to Doctor Who, for an epic and emotional feature-length episode. If anyone can blast away the sheer rubbishness of 2020, it’s Captain Jack. Daleks beware!”

Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks will premiere this holiday season.
