Game of Thrones prequel casts Paddy Considine

Paddy Considine for Game of Thrones prequelPaddy Considine has been cast in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, which will be focusing on the members of House Targaryen.

According to a report by Variety, Considine will be playing Viserys I. Here is his detailed character description:

“King Viserys Targaryen is chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.”

Viserys I ruled over Westeros around a century after Aegon’s Conquest and his children, Rhaenyra and Aegon II would eventually wage a civil war over the throne which would go down in history as the Dance of Dragons.

House of the Dragon will be based on George R.R. Martin’s expansive book about the Targaryen dynasty, Fire & Blood. The series will be set a few hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones. It is one of the fortunate Game of Thrones shows that will be moving forward as opposed to the previously announced prequel pilot that starred Naomi Watts as well as several other related projects that had been put in development when the flagship series concluded last year.

So far, the series has received a 10-episode order from HBO and casting has begun over the summer. The show was co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal with Game of Thrones veteran director Miguel Sapochnik and Condal serving as co-showrunners as well as executive producers with Martin and Vince Gerardis. Sara Lee Hess will be writer and executive producer.

Considine has been in various recent HBO projects such as the Stephen King adaptation, The Outsider, and he is currently starring in The Third Day. He is also known for his roles on Peaky Blinders, Informer, and The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher.

House of the Dragon is supposed to air sometime in 2022.
