The Mandalorian wins five Emmys for Creative Arts

The Mandalorian S2The Mandalorian has begun collecting its first trophies during the Creative Arts Emmy Awards 2020.

During the third of five nights of the 2020 virtual Creative Arts Emmys, The Mandalorian emerged victorious, nabbing the awards for special visual effects, sound editing, sound mixing, production design and cinematography. This marks the first foray of Disney+ in the awards circuit and so far, so good. The future already looks bright for the first live-action Star Wars series.

According to Deadline, HBO’s Watchmen also went home with four awards with Succession winning a trophy as well while Netflix had wins for Stranger Things, The Crown, and The Ranch. You can check out the breakdown of awards here.

The Creative Arts ceremonies are produced by Bob Bain Prods. and consist of 100 awards being handed out over the five nights. Among the categories presented were cinematography, costumes, picture and sound editing, and special visual effects across comedy, drama and limited series/TV movies.

The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to air on ABC on September 20, to be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The ceremony will be held virtually, with camera crew sent to the locations of all the nominees. This will be a first in the history of the awards.

As previously reported, The Mandalorian has been nominated for 15 different categories at this year’s Emmys, including Best Drama Series. The show follows the adventures of a lone bounty hunter who encounters a unique creature whom he chooses to protect. This fateful decision sends them both on an epic journey across the galaxy to find the other members of the child’s race while escaping darker forces determined to destroy them. The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Showrunner Jon Favreau serves as executive producer along with Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, with Karen Gilchrist serving as co-executive producer.

The Mandalorian season two will premiere on October 30 on Disney+.
