DC FanDome: First Look At The Suicide Squad and Roster Revealed

The Suicide Squad is set to relaunch the brand and James Gunn brought the cast to DC FanDome to introduce the characters and showcase some first footage for the film.

Fans got their first look at The Suicide Squad with two cool videos, showcasing the cast and some behind the scenes footage. The film is described as a 70’s war film with supervillains. We also got final confirmation on who the cast will play and make up the team.

Gunn’s roster consists of some recurring characters from the first film, but he seems to be drawing heavily from the 80’s run on the series and pulling some very obscure minor DC villains to make up the team. A lot of C and D list villains will get a chance to shine in this film, where they could eventually become A-listers.

Idris Elba is Bloodsport. Bloodsport in the comics is a minor Superman villain known for Kryptonite bullets. In the film, his character is in prison for shooting Superman. His daughter will be played by Storm Reid.

Margot Robbie reprises her role as Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn has already appeared in the original Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. In traditional Harley Quinn fashion, she has adopted a brand new costume, using the classic red and black associated with the character’s original costume.

Daniela Melchoir is Ratcatcher II. In the comics, Ratcatcher is a man and not known for having a legacy person pick up the mantle, so this is a new character for the movie and hints at the appearance of the original Ratcatcher.

David Dastmalcian is going to play Polka Dot Man. Dastmlcian is no stranger to the realm of superhero films; he had a small role in The Dark Knight and plays Kurt in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Nathan Fillion is set to play T.D.K. aka Arm Fall-Off-Boy, whose powers are exactly what you expect. Fillion has appeared in many of Gunn’s previous films.

Steve Agee will voice King Shark. Agge previously appeared in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Peter Capaldi is set to play The Thinker. Fans may know Thinker as the main villain in The Flash Season 4.

Mayling Ng is playing Mongal. Mongal is an alien so her presence here raises some interesting questions.

Pete Davidson is Black Guard. Davidson is currently enjoying a summer where his film, The King of Staten Island, has enjoyed a great amount of success on VOD.

Michael Rooker is Savant. Rooker has been described as Gunn’s good luck charm and has been in all of his films.

Alicia Braga is Sol Soria. Braga will be seen in New Mutants for Fox.

Flula Borg is Javalen, a minor DC villain.

Sean Gunn is Weasel. Sean and James are brothers and Sean Gunn appears in both Guardians of the Galaxy films as Kraglin, and is also the on-set actor for Rocket.

Joaquin Cosio will play Major General Suarez.

John Cena is going to be the first live-action incarnation of Peacemaker, a Charlton comics character that DC acquired and was the inspiration for the Comedian in Watchmen. He describes himself as ‘a douche Captain America.’

Viola Davis reprises her role as Amanda Waller, the leader of Task Force X.

Joel Kinnaman will return as Rick Flagg Jr., seen here rocking a yellow t-shirt similar to his original 1980’s comic costume.

Jai Courtney reprises his role as Captain Boomerang, one of the few characters returning from the first film.

After the panel, Gunn tweeted out an image of a stylized poster made for the event.
