WATCH: The King’s Man trailer

The King's Man posterThe newly released trailer for The King’s Man, the prequel film to Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman series, shows an action-packed adventure with an all-star cast.

This will be the third film in the Kingsman franchise, following 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and the 2017 sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, both directed by Vaughn and starring Taron Egerton and Colin Firth. The prequel will explore the origins of the secret spy organization that featured so prominently in the first two films.

As reported by Collider, the film was initially supposed to premiere in November 2019 but the release date was pushed to February 2020 when Disney took over 20th Century Fox. And now, it has been updated to September 2020. So far, the film has avoided the fate of other Disney production that have been released to Disney+ instead of opening in theaters.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

“As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them. Discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency in The King’s Man.

The King’s Man is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Gemma Arterton (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Rhys Ifans (Berlin Station), Matthew Goode (A Discovery of Witches), Tom Hollander (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Harris Dickinson (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil), Daniel Brühl (Captain America: Civil War), with Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Charles Dance (Godzilla: King of the Monsters).

The film is based on the comic book The Secret Service written by Mark Millar and David Gibbons and the story is by Matthew Vaughn with a screenplay by Vaughn and Karl Gajdusek. Vaughn, David Reid, and Adam Bohling are producing the film with Millar, Gibbons, Stephen Marks, Claudia Vaughn, and Ralph Fiennes serving as executive producers.

The King’s Man will open in theaters on September 18, 2020.
