Tuca & Bertie season 2 picked up by Adult Swim

Tuca & Bertie s2 comingTuca & Bertie, the animated comedy series about two birds in their thirties has been picked up by Adult Swim for a second season after it was cancelled by Netflix last year.

According to a report by Variety, Adult Swim has ordered ten episodes for the second series revolving around the adventures of two best friends, Tuca, a toucan played by Tiffany Haddish (The Last O.G.) and Bertie, a songbird played by Ali Wong (Always Be My Maybe). Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) also stars as a robin and Bertie’s boyfriend. Other members of the show’s voice cast include Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Shamir Bailey, Jenifer Lewis, and Kate Berlant. Notable guest stars on the cast for the first season include Awkwafina, Tig Notaro, Michelle Dockery, Adam Conover, Sung Won Cho, Amber Ruffin, Laverne Cox, Tessa Thompson, Jane Lynch, Isabella Rossellini, and Taraji P. Henson.

The series was created by Lisa Hanawalt and Michael Eisner’s Tornante Co. The first season had ten episodes but was unfortunately cancelled by Netflix shortly after it aired. The second season is expected to air sometime next year.

Hanawalt expressed her excitement about the revival of the show:

“I’ve been a fan of Adult Swim shows since my teens, so I’m thrilled to bring my beloved fowl to the party and be a new voice for a fresh decade of absurd, irreverent, yet heartwarming adult animation.”

While the first season will remain available on Netflix, Adult Swim has rights to the second season. Adult Swim (which is also associated with Cartoon Network) has become known for its quirky canon of adult animated series including Robot Chicken, Rick and Morty, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
