Love in the Time of Corona series ordered at Freeform

Freeform has ordered a four-part limited series called Love in the time of Corona which is expected to premiere in August.

Yet another series about the coronavirus crisis is coming our way. After Netflix ordered the quarantine anthology series called Social Distance, the Disney-owned network Freeform has now ordered a series of its own. Another currently running show about the lockdown is ITV’s Isolation Stories.

The series is described as “a funny and hopeful look at the search for love, sex and connection amid social distancing” according to a report by Variety.

Love in the time of Corona will be executively produced by Joanna Johnson and Christine Sacani (Good Trouble), as well as Anonymous Content’s Robyn Meisinger. Like Social Distance, the show will be produced remotely and actors will be using their own homes as backdrops for the story. The title is obviously a reference to the Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, Love in the Time of Cholera.

More details of the plot have been revealed: “It will follow several interwoven stories with an ensemble of characters who are sheltering in their homes, some of whom are wondering if a hookup with a roommate can ever be casual, while another is kicking herself for deciding to isolate with an ex.”

Executive vice president of programming and development at Freeform, Lauren Corrao said this about the project:

“This is the perfect show for a generation who is learning to love and be loved in a time when the entire world is telling them to stay six feet apart…Although the constraints have been difficult during this time, immense creativity has flourished and we could not be more grateful that Joanna brought this series to Freeform.”

Johnson added:

“Love is a basic and central need…Finding it in the time of Corona may pose unique challenges, but it won’t stop us from forging great love stories, inspiring grand romantic gestures and profound acts of kindness.”
