WATCH: Westworld season finale trailer

Maeve WestworldWestworld season three is nearing its conclusion and a trailer of the finale shows the main players gearing up for an explosive confrontation.

As Caleb (Aaron Paul) walks through the rioting streets, he looks confused about the role he needs to play in the revolution. In the latest episode, he just discovered that he was one of the outliers in the system created by the A.I. Rehoboam and he had undergone “reconditioning” to erase his previous memories. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) tasks him with finishing the work she started.

Westworld S3 AAnother scene in the trailer shows Dolores undergoing repairs after having been gravely injured by Maeve (Thandie Newton) in a thrilling fight. But Maeve and Dolores are fated to face off again in the finale, both wearing black, and with Maeve brandishing a katana.

“What’s about to happen was always going to happen,” Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) says in the clip, “What comes after the end of the world?”

In another scene, the season’s main villain Engerraund Serac (Vincent Cassel) points a gun to Caleb’es head and says: “You think you’re in control. Do you think you’re the hero?”

Dolores, armed to the teeth, also comes face-to-face with one of her clones, the one in the form of Charlotte Hale, who had decided to take matters into her own hands.

And there are glimpses of Bernard, Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth), and William (Ed Harris), who is currently suffering from savior complex and seems determined to destroy the hosts.

“I have a role to play now,” William declares, “I’m going to save the f*cking world.”

The episode is titled “Crisis Theory” and the only synopsis provided is a mysterious: “Time to face the music.” Westworld has always explored the tension between determinism and free will, and none more than in this season which saw the hosts escape the park to enter the “real” world of the future, a future where humanity’s data is being stored and monitored by an omniscient A.I. system and where a vicious Frenchman wants to control everything.

Don’t miss the Westworld season three finale on Sunday on HBO.
