WATCH: She-ra and the Princesses of Power final season trailer

She-ra and the Princesses of Power S5 trailerShe-Ra and the Princesses of Power will face their greatest enemy yet in the upcoming final season of the epic Netflix animated series. The trailer for the final season has just been released and the clip brings together all the show’s heroes as they battle for the fate of their universe.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a reboot of the 80s animated series, re-imagined by Noelle Stevenson. At the end of the previous season, Adora (Aimee Carrero) destroyed the powerful sword that transformed her into the legendary warrior She-ra in order to prevent this sword from becoming a weapon of mass destruction. Etheria is restored to its place in the universe, after being safely hidden away in a pocket dimension by the previous She-ra, and it is now the target of the vicious Horde Prime. Catra (AJ Michalka) and Glimmer (Karen Fukuhara) are transported to Horde Prime’s flagship and now have to find a way to stay alive and escape to help their friends.

“When I broke the sword, I thought I could make my own destiny,” Adora says sadly in the trailer, “I don’t know what my destiny is anymore.”

There’s imagery of the shattered sword that is reminiscent of the shards of Narsil from the Lord of the Rings.

“I can’t do this alone,” Adora laments. But Bow is quick to reassure her:

She-ra and the Princesses of Power S5 trailer“You aren’t alone. You’ve never been.”

Stevenson talked to Entertainment Weekly about the real danger posed by Horde Prime:

“Horde Prime has no space in his empire for individuality; everything needs to be a reflection of his own ego…

CatradoraCharacters like Glimmer and Catra, who have been striving for self-individuation this whole time, to be told that ‘you’re both cogs in this machine and will be used to flatten the universe and make everything uniform,’ I think that’s the most horrifying thing they’ve been confronted with.”

The clip shows scenes of Glimmer and Catra on Horde Prime’s ship, with Catra looking sadly back at her world. After spending most of the series as Adora’s nemesis despite having grown up together as close friends, Catra might now have her chance for redemption during the final season. There are enough hints at this reconciliation in the trailer including a seemingly heartfelt “Hello, Adora.”

“No longer shall She-ra stand in my way,” Horde Prime declares with confidence.

“You will never win,” Glimmer tells the villain defiantly as the trailer shows multiple scenes of all the princesses (including Scorpia and Entrapta!) using their powers to protect each other and to save their world.

The trailer also features a haunting, slow version of the show’s theme song, “Warriors,” performed by Michalka. EW confirms that the song will be available to stream or purchase as part of the series soundtrack that will become available on May 8.

The end of the trailer mirrors the end of the trailer for the first season, with Adora saying the magical words that transform her into She-Ra. But where there was hesitation and confusion the first time she uttered those words, for the last adventure, she says them with more confidence and hope.

“For the honor of Grayskull!”

Don’t miss the final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on May 15 on Netflix.
