After making her last appearance on The Walking Dead as Michonne, star Danai Gurira shared a heartfelt message to all the fans as a farewell to a beloved character.
In the latest episode of The Walking Dead, Michonne finds some clues about Rick Grimes’ fate – a pair of cowboy boots and a smart phone with pictures of her and Judith engraved on it as well as Rick’s name and a message in Japanese. According to a report by Collider, Scott M. Gimple confirmed that the message reads “believe a little longer.” At the end of the episode, Michonne sets off in search of Rick and so leaves the main show, hopefully to appear when the Rick-centered movie arrives.
Michonne has been an integral part of The Walking Dead, growing from an angry lone warrior to a capable and compassionate leader. Many fans are sad to see the character go. On her social media accounts, Gurira expressed her gratitude to her family on the show and to all the fans who have supported her and have loved her character over the years.

Here is the full text of Gurira’s message:
“Is it possible to feel your heart is broken and overwhelmed with love all at once? Leaving Michonne was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am so grateful for the kindness, beauty, and generosity of love that I have received over the last couple days. I have change and grown living in this role which has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to play. The astounding Walking Dead fandom who supported the characters we created and the world we strived to bring to life are the ones who made this incredible journey. possible. To receive so much love from you means everything to me.
Thank you to the amazing cast and crew I had the pleasure and honor to work with to tell this tory. SO many incredible human beings. I leave knowing with every ounce of my being how hard it is to find that type of community and connection. People who have your back, true collaborators who are pursuing the story above all things and who are pouring it out with love and abundance.
The balm in it all is this amazing family I have gained. Everyone, from Andy Lincoln to every last faithful fan, everyone is #TWDFamily, and I am so thankful for that family. And I know it never stops. We will continue to grow and be together in various ways along the journey. We have touched each other. And so, it never ends.
Thank you so much for the videos and tributes; for all the messages of love and support. For sharing what Michonne meant to you. They have enriched me so much during this difficult time in the world. I cannot express my love and gratitude enough.”
Andrew Lincoln likewise gave a tribute to Michonne in a hilarious clip were he serenades his former co-star, shares an amusing anecdote about the time they met, and expresses his admiration for her. Lincoln said:
“I just wanna say congratulations on an incredible character, an incredible achievement, and you are the most marvelous, talented, dignified, honorable, classy, and gorgeous girl I’ve had the good fortune to work with and I just wanna say big love and congratulations…”
Gurira shared the video on her Instagram account and you can watch the clip below:
As previously reported, The Walking Dead season ten finale and the premiere of the spinoff The Walking Dead: World Beyond have been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus crisis. The loss of Michonne and the lack of closure for the season-long arc are major blows to all the fans of the show but for the time being, they should find comfort in Gurira and Lincoln’s messages.
The remaining episodes of The Walking Dead air every Sunday on AMC.
