Watch the final exciting trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker below!
The trailer dropped on ESPN (also owned by Disney) during the halftime of ‘Monday Night Football’, which keeps with the tradition of Disney releasing the final Star Wars trailer and ticket release date in October. This was the release pattern also for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (October 19, 2015), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (October 13, 2019) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (October 9, 2017). Today’s trailer release is fitting as it marks what would have been Carrie Fisher’s 63rd birthday, so it is appropriate she gets the final line of the trailer.
Similar to how Disney sold Avengers: Endgame earlier this year, there is a major push to sell this as an epic conclusion. In this case, it is ending a franchise that has been around for 42 years that spans generations. The trailer highlights this series core characters: Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Kylo Ren with some love shown to fan favorites Chewbacca, C3PO (who has had very little to do in the past two films), and of course the ghost of Palpatine, Luke Skywalker and Leia hanging over the trailer. Yet in traditional J.J Abrams (and now Disney) fashion, the trailer keeps it vague about what the movie is actually about, instead of selling you on a feeling. Here of nostalgia and finality.
The Skywalker Saga might be coming to a close, but the Star Wars story will live on in the hearts and minds of fans all over the world. People will continue to visit a galaxy far far away by rewatching the old films, watching the new television series, whatever new series of films Lucasfilm has planned, books, comics, video games, and two theme parks. The spark of the rebellion burns bright.
Also with the release of the trailer comes the final poster.
Tickets to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker went on sale before the trailer dropped and are now available everywhere tickets are sold.
The press release from Lucasfilm Ltd. states:

Few easter eggs spotted over the trailer.
One of the ships seen flying with the Millenium Falcon in formation is the Ghost seen on Star Wars Rebels, so is there a chance we see the Rebels Crew in live-action? We can hope.

Anthony Daniels is C-3PO in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

Oscar Isaac is Poe Dameron, Daisy Ridley is Rey and Anthony Daniels is C-3PO in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

R2-D2 with C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
- C3PO’s line “taking one last look sir…at my friends” is certainly a line to invoke tears from fans since C3PO was the first character to ever speak in Star Wars (he gets the first line in Episode IV).
- Reylo fan theories just went through the roof with this shot.

Daisy Ridley is Rey and Adam Driver is Kylo Ren in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
- Rey and Kylo do appear to be fighting on the wreckage of the second Death Star, could this water planet be the actual Endor (remember in Return of the Jedi it was the Forest Moon of Endor, not the actual planet).

John Boyega is Finn and Naomi Ackie is Jannah in STAR WARS; THE RISE OF SKYWALKER.
- The Resistance is riding space horses into battle on top of a bunch of Star Destroyers is the coolest sentence I can write.

Joonas Suotamo is Chewbacca and Billy Dee Williams is Lando Calrissian in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
- Lando Calrissian gets to ride in the pilot seat of the Millenium Falcon one more time and is sporting a similar outfit that Donald Glover wore as the character in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Daisy Ridley is Rey in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
- Rey confronting what appears to be the shadow/force ghost of Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious. Much like Luke and Anakin before her, she must come face to face with the ultimate dark side user.
