It’s most likely going to be a while before the seventh and final season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs, but while we wait, here’s one bit of news to help tide us over: Patrick Warburton will be returning as Agent Rick Stoner.
ComicBook.com reports that Warburton was asked about a possible return to the show at Dublin Comic Con last weekend. He confirmed that he’s already filmed his scenes as Stoner. Said Warburton, “Yeah, I’m coming back. I shot some stuff recently with those guys. That was a lot of fun.”
Agent Stoner has previously only been seen on the show in holographic footage. This was way back in season five, when Stoner introduced our agents to the Lighthouse as a SHIELD-created base, made in the 1970s and meant to be able to survive the end of the world. So, since SHIELD has jumped back to the past for its final season, does this mean we’ll be meeting Stoner in the flesh? (That would, of course, require the theories to be true that our team will be jumping around to various years in the past, not just the 1930s. Incidentally, that would also allow the rumored return of Agent Peggy Carter.) Or will he just be appearing as a hologram to bother the Chronicoms who have taken over the Lighthouse?
We’ll have to wait until Agents of SHIELD returns on ABC sometime in 2020 to find out.
