With just a little over two weeks to go until the film’s release, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has unleashed its final trailer. There’s a lot of already seen footage in it, but some enticing scares hidden in between, too. It has a little more about the film’s small town setting and the creepy legend of Sarah Bellows, who provides part of the narration in the trailer. Another look at Harold. A book with story titles fans of the children’s series will find familiar—except this one’s written in blood. The Jangly Man scaring the sheriff’s poor dog. And you know there’s going to be a lot of jump scares in this thing.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is such a beloved series that it’s going to be hard to please every nostalgic fan, but from the trailers alone it looks like the movie’s not shying away from how horrific the original tales are. Though it’s finally earned a PG-13 rating and is geared more toward teens, there’s a lot of room to make it a truly scary experience. Some of the creatures that populate these stories are horrifying enough that the visuals and effects will likely be fantastic even if the story doesn’t exactly manage it. But we’ll pass judgement when we finally see it, because we’re excited for all the hype Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has been getting. If anything, it might get a whole new generation of fans to pick up the books for themselves if they missed them the first time around.
