SDCC 2019: ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Cast, Characters Unveiled

What better time to release a torrent of Star Trek news than the 50th anniversary of the moon landing? At the Star Trek Universe panel in Hall H, fans got a first glimpse of the newest addition to the Star Trek franchise. Star Trek: Lower Decks is an animated comedy series set in the year 2380 that centers on the support crew aboard the U.S.S. Cerritos, one of Starfleet’s least important ships. With most of the other spin-offs and reboots focused on the big names in the franchise, it seems like this series will bring a fresh perspective to the ever-expanding Trek universe. And this isn’t the only Star Trek animated series to look forward to, either—another series is set to air on Nickelodeon in the future.

San Diego Comic Con gave the first look at the series’ characters and revealed its voice cast. Ensign Beckett Mariner is voiced by Tawny Newsome. Newsome will also serve as co-host of the new official Star Trek podcast, Prime Directive, that will debut this fall! Jack Quaid voices Ensign Brad Boimler, Noel Wells voices Ensign Tendi, and Eugene Cordero voices Ensign Rutherford. There’s also the bridge crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos, featuring Captain Carol Freeman, voiced by Dawnn Lewis, Commander Jack Ransom, voiced by Jerry O’Connell, Lieutenant Shaxs, voiced by Fred Tatasciore, and Doctor T’Ana, voiced by Gillian Vigman. The panel even revealed the first look at the holodeck of the U.S.S. Cerritos!

Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Katie Krentz will executive produce Star Trek: Lower Decks alongside series creator Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty). The series will air exclusively on CBS All Access. Check out the cast of characters below!
