Production on Hulu’s adaptation of John Green’s bestselling novel Looking for Alaska began this month. Looking for Alaska tells the story of Miles “Pudge” Halter, a student at Culver Creek, a boarding school in Alabama. News about the long-anticipated series has been slowly trickling in since it was first announced in May 2018. On his podcast Dear Hank and John, Green revealed that he visited the Culver Creek set, which exceeded his expectations. As the fictional Culver Creek was based on Green’s own experiences at a boarding school in Alabama, that is high praise indeed.
Since announcing the fresh-faced casting of the main characters, Pudge and Alaska, and several other series regulars, there hasn’t been much news. Today, Hulu announced that Timothy Simons (Veep) and Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) will be joining the 8 episode miniseries. Simons will play the Culver Creek dean of students, nicknamed “The Eagle.” The Eagle is a humorless and watchful presence on campus whom Pudge and his friends have to work to defy. Jones will play the incredibly old History of Religion teacher, Dr. Hyde. Dr. Hyde is an intelligent and captivating teacher who pushes Pudge to be his best self.
