Lou Diamond Phillips to Direct a S6 Episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

While we still don’t know much about the upcoming sixth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we now have one more thing to which we can look forward: EW reports that Lou Diamond Phillips will direct the fifth episode. This will be a reunion for Phillips and SHIELD star Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), who previously worked together on Stargate: Universe.

Phillips told EW he was excited to be asked, saying his response was an immediate yes:

Instant answer, because of the world, because it’s Marvel. It’s big. It’s comic-book stuff. It’s action. It’s mythology. It’s science-fiction. It’s all of that rolled into one. And of course my old friend Ming-Na was on it. That’s crazy, that’s wonderful!

Wen was also very positive about the chance to see her former costar, stating that their time on Stargate was “a very special two years for us up in Vancouver” and that she was “just so happy” when she heard Phillips would be directing.

Now that we know to look for the fifth episode specifically, it will be interesting to see how LDP’s enthusiasm carries over to the screen. In fact, it seems kind of crazy that Marvel hasn’t tapped the veteran actor and director for any role before now.

In addition to this news, check out the new official season six cast photo, which seems to suggest some hints about the team’s dynamic heading into the sixth season. That especially includes Director Mack (Henry Simmons) at the center, and how Clark Gregg’s not!Coulson is lurking in the background…
