Hellboy Release Date Delayed 3 Months

Hellboy, the reboot of the Dark Horse Comic book series, has had its release date pushed back. Originally set to premiere on January 11, 2019, Lionsgate has now bumped the release date back to April 12, 2019.

This new release date makes sense, as the film was set to hit theaters in four months with no trailer set to air. Dark Phoenix, which releases in February, will have its trailer drop later today. Lionsgate figures they needed more time, and hopefully a trailer will arrive soon so fans and general audiences can get a sense of this new direction for the franchise.

The new release date puts Hellboy a week after Shazam and three weeks before Avengers 4 hits theaters. Is that too many superhero movies for one month? Can Hellboy stand out from the pack?

Hellboy will star David Harbour (Stranger Things) as the title character, with a cast that includes Mila Jovovich (Resident Evil), Ian McShane (American Gods), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Brian Gleeson (Logan Lucky), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), Penelope Mitchell (The Vampire Diaries), and Daniel Dae Kim (Lost). Neil Marshall (30 Days of Night) will direct the film, taking the franchise in a new direction from the two Guillermo del Toro movies.
