His Dark Materials Renewed for a Second Season

The BBC’s highly anticipated television adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy has already been renewed for an eight-episode second season, ahead of the release of season one. Filming for the eight-episode first season began back in July, following three years of waiting since BBC One first commissioned the show back in 2015.

The first attempt to adapt the books was in the 2007 film, The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. While that film received mostly tepid reactions, it seems that the television show is faring much better – especially if the second season order is anything to judge by.

The television series boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Dafne Keen (Logan), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Merry Poppins Returns), James McAvoy (Split), and Ruth Wilson (The Affair), among others. The show will be directed by Tom Hooper, best known for Academy Award-nominated films The Danish Girl and The King’s Speech, as well as some much-lauded television series.

Are you excited to get twice as much His Dark Materials? Are you as concerned as I am about an adaptation of such a fantastical series? Chime in with your thoughts below!
