SDCC 2018: ‘Riverdale’ Stars KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse and Luke Perry Talk S3

Stars KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse and Luke Perry sat down at San Diego Comic-Con to preview what’s in store for their respective characters on season three of Riverdale.

During season two’s finale, Archie was framed by Hiram Lodge for the murder of Cassidy Book. Actor KJ Apa clearly knew a lot of what’s to come, but chose to keep things a little more tight-lipped for the sake of the surprise. “Archie is on trial for the murder of Cassidy Book, so we’ll see what happens with that,” he teased.

“Every season takes a different genre and a different take, so it’s hard to plan out exactly what the continuity for season three is going to be,” Sprouse added, redirecting the conversation towards his character’s journey. “[Jughead’s] mother and sister are coming back to town and it’s gonna breed some discontent between him and his leadership with the Serpents.” There’s certainly been a lot of drama surrounding various family members and their returns, such as Archie’s mom in Season 1 followed by Veronica’s dad and Betty’s supposed brother in season 2, so it will be interesting to see what becomes of Jughead’s family as it grows before our eyes.

As for season three’s theme, Sprouse noted that it’s difficult to pin it down, considering the actors only just finished their first episode. However, the young actor hinted that the theme could center around a “cult narrative.” He also reassured audiences that the core four will be “more together” in the first two episodes, rather than having separate plots within an episode.

However, Apa countered that statement just a but by adding that “it’s not just about the core four, it’s about everyone.” As long as every series regular gets more interactions with each other, and the established friendships continue to blossom, fans everywhere are sure to be pleased.

Season 3 of Riverdale premieres Wednesday, October 10th at 9/8c on the CW.
