Looks like Kate Kane isn’t just coming to the Arrowverse for a brief visit, as TVLine has just reported that Berlanti Productions is preparing a Batwoman television series for the CW.
Arrow star Stephen Amell unveiled Kate Kane’s upcoming crossover introduction at the Upfronts earlier this year, and fans have been abuzz with theories about her getting her own show ever since. With Gotham ending this year on FOX, it’s a perfect time for a new version of the Bat family’s home to make an appearance, especially if the CW takes the same approach as Supergirl and focuses on the female members of the vigilante household instead.

Kate and Renee being adorable.
The series is set to be part of CW’s schedule in 2019 if it gets picked up. It promises to focus on the New 52 version of Kate Kane, who has since become the most popular and iconic iteration of the character. It will be helmed by Caroline Dries, who previously wrote for Smallville and served as executive producer for The Vampire Diaries, and the logline is as follows:
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
Kate Kane’s legacy as an out and proud lesbian has become very important in recent years, so it’s a relief that Dries and co. won’t be shying away from that. But while fans of the current Arrowverse are clamoring for Floriana Lima’s Maggie Sawyer to join the cast, I personally hope to see Renee Montoya (played by an actual latinx actress) as Kate’s leading lady.
