‘Shadowhunters’ is Cancelled By Freeform

Hail and Farewell, Shadowhunters.

It was announced yesterday, in a Freeform press release, that the second half of Season 3 and a now-added 2 hour series finale will be the last for our ShadowhuntersThe date of the next batch of episodes is also pushed back from mid August to a Spring 2019 premiere.

The network had the following to say in regards to the series sudden cancellation:

“We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite. However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season.  But, as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama.”

In recent months, we’ve seen shows get axed and later saved from new networks and streaming services (The Expanse and the ever popular Brooklyn 99 to name a few). Could Shadowhunters become one of the renewed? Given the now longer wait time for Season 3B, that gives us more time to let our voices be heard and create a buzz about it. But if the show does get saved, how would the new network work around the upcoming series finale?

Alas, I’m absolutely gutted by this news and my heart goes out to the cast, crew, and every single individual that helped make Shadowhunters the amazing show it is.

We’ll keep you updated on the status of our beloved supernatural show. But in the meantime, let’s grab our steles, perfect our runes, and let’s save Shadowhunters.
