REVIEW: Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep6 – Just in Case

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep6 – Just in Case

Fear the Walking Dead delivered another thrilling and tragic installment as we explored more of Naomi’s past and what went down in the baseball stadium with the Vultures.

After last week’s episode dedicated to the poignant love story between Naomi (Laura) and John Dorie, I didn’t think we would spend more time with either of them. But this season really seems to be about getting to know the new characters, even while the main cast (the Clarks) get relegated to the sidelines somewhat. This episode did give us some moments with Strand and Madison, but Nick (still alive in the flashbacks) did not do much.

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep6 – Just in CaseInstead, we learned more about Naomi’s past as she leads Madison and Strand to one of her old communities where there are still ample supplies that can be used. She is forced to face a horde of walkers, all of whom she seems to be well acquainted with. The place brings back painful memories for her and she finally talks in more detail about the child she lost.

Her daughter Rose got sick and died while she went out to find medicines. By the time Naomi returned, Rose had turned and turned everyone else around her. So Naomi feels burdened by the guilt that not only was she unable to save her child, but her negligence seemingly doomed a whole community as well.

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep6 – Just in CaseStrand and Madison assure her that none of this was her fault. Earlier on, Strand confesses to Madison that the supply truck he had brought back was part of his own contingency plan in case things went south. Then followed some exposition about how Madison still chose to save him from the flood last season. She brushes this off but he still insists that she always tries to see the best in people.

They return triumphantly to the stadium with all the supplies and this seemingly is enough to send the Vultures packing quietly. But nothing is this easy on Fear the Walking Dead and clearly something terrible still came to pass. For all her optimism, Madison asked Alicia to prepare a truck with supplies, “just in case.” We still don’t know what happened to Madison, by the way.

Fear the Walking Dead, S4 Ep6 – Just in CaseBack in the present timeline, John Dorie and Morgan track down some of the Vultures and find out their next meeting place. Morgan warns them that there are people out to kill them but fat lot of good that does.

They join Alicia and company just as the Vultures arrive. After an angry confrontation between the two groups, Fear the Walking Dead pulls the rug from under us and reveals that Naomi is alive…and one of the Vultures.

Before anyone can process this revelation, Alicia angrily fires at Naomi and John gets shot instead. So much has happened and I hope that Fear the Walking Dead won’t kill off one of the best characters it has ever introduced so soon. Losing Nick was bad enough. But now, we’ll have to wait and see.
