CW Drops First Look Trailer for ‘Charmed’

Ever since the CW announced their Charmed reboot, fans have been greatly divided – to put it lightly – based solely on the fact that the original cast wouldn’t be reprising their roles. Now after months of discussion and debate, there is finally some footage to judge on its own merits. Check out the First Look trailer for Charmed below:

Right off the bat, it’s clear that the new show is no longer dealing with the Halliwell sisters. Instead Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery are the Vera sisters, who are reunited upon the mysterious death of their mother. In fact, aside from the Power of Three leading to these ladies becoming The Charmed Ones, there isn’t much from the original series to be found in the trailer. While that’s certainly one of the reasons fans of and actresses from the previous show are put off, it also means that the new Charmed has a shot at standing on its own rather than coasting on the formula of its predecessor.

Given the talent of the three lead actresses and the fact that Jane The Virgin‘s Jenny Snyder Urman is the showrunner, I have little doubt that the first season will wind up being much better than many are anticipating. But will that be enough to overcome the considerable backlash it has thus far experienced? I certainly hope so, because it’s rare to see even one Latina in a supernatural show – let alone three.

The marketing and promotion of the series may have gotten off on the wrong foot, but there’s still a lot of potential to be found in the nearly 4-minute long trailer. Will you be giving the new Charmed a chance, or has its spell already worn off? Let us know in the comments below.

Charmed premieres Sunday, October 14th at 10/9pm central on the CW.
