The series is set in the near future where humanity has nearly perfected AI technology and created themed parks that feature realistic robotic hosts who cater to one’s every exotic fantasy. Season two begins with the robot uprising in full swing as the hosts turn against their abusive masters.

Casey Bloys, head of HBO programming, expressed his excitement about the show, saying:

“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew… From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”

Westworld is inspired by the Michael Crichton film of the same name and created for television by Nolan and Joy. The show boasts of an all-star cast which includes Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jimmi Simpson, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Ben Barnes, Luke Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. New additions to the cast for season two include Fares Fares, Gustaf Skarsgard, Katja Hebers, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rinko Kikuchi, Tao Okamoto, Jonathan Tucker, Peter Mullan, Zahn McClarnon, Betty Gabriel, Julia Jones, and Kiki Sukezane.

The world of the show continues to expand after the showrunners revealed that there are five more parks beyond Westworld and this season, we will be visiting one, Shogun World. The show has become a huge hit for HBO, almost on par with Game of Thrones. The first season premiered in 2016 and earned numerous award nominations including 22 Emmy nominations and five wins, along with three Golden Globe nominations and three SAG nominations. There has been a long wait in between seasons because of the large and complex production but so far, the show has been worth the wait.
