‘The Death of Superman’ Animated Feature Details & Sneak Peek Released

In 1992, DC Comics published the now iconic story line “The Death of Superman” which concluded in Superman #75 as Superman met his end at the hands of Doomsday. The story continued after with “The Reign of the Supermen!” which eventually saw Superman’s return in 1993. The full event has since been very loosely adapted in the 2007 animated film Superman: Doomsday and elements were also included in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Now, Warner Bros. Animation is taking another crack at adapting the story, but this time splitting it into two separate films; The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen. Due out this year, The Death of Superman will not only adapt the 1992-1993 story arc, but will also tie into DC’s current animated universe of films, which began with 2014’s Justice League: War.

Directed by Wes Gleason and Jake Castorena, The Death of Superman will feature the voice talents of Rainn Wilson (The Office) as Lex Luthor, Jason O’Mara (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Batman, Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) as Cyborg, Rosario Dawson (The Defenders) as Wonder Woman, Nathan Fillion (Castle) as Green Lantern, Rebecca Romijn (The Librarians) as Lois Lane, and Jerry O’Connell (Carter) as Superman.
