Watch the trailer for Christopher Robin, Disney’s new Winnie-the-Pooh

Christopher RobinDisney has released the first trailer for the live-action version of Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin, and starring Ewan McGregor as the titular character. The film will be directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland).

Christopher Robin is the latest in the series of live-action adaptations of Disney animated classics. More recent films include Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, and Maleficent. There are many more on their way such as The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Mulan.

This film is not to be confused with Goodbye, Christopher Robin which was released last year and which starred Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars, Harry Potter) as A.A. Milne, the creator of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

McGregor plays a Robin as a stressed-out adult who needs to find more magic in his life. The trailer for another upcoming Disney live-action sequel, Mary Poppins Returns, was also just released. The story seems to have a similar theme of the children growing up into dark and dreary adulthood, and needing reminders from figures in their past of how wonderful life can be.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

“In the heartwarming Christopher Robin, the young boy who embarked on countless adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with his band of spirited and lovable stuffed animals, has grown up and lost his way. Now it is up to his childhood friends to venture into our world and help Christopher Robin remember the loving and playful boy who is still inside.”

According to a report by Collider, the star-studded cast includes Hayley Atwell as Christopher’s wife Evelyn, Bronte Carmichael as his daughter Madeline, and Mark Gatiss as Christopher’s boss Keith Winslow, and features the voices of Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh; Chris O’Dowd as Tigger; Brad Garrett as Eeyore; Toby Jones as Owl; Nick Mohammed as Piglet; Peter Capaldi as Rabbit; and Sophie Okonedo as Kanga.

Christopher Robin is due to be released on August 3, 2018.
