Another teaser for the upcoming season of Westworld was shown during this year’s Super Bowl, revealing more scenes and the release date for the highly-anticipated sci-fi drama.
A piano cover of Kanye West’s “Runaway” plays over the new trailer while the voice of Dolores (played by Evan Rachel Wood) utters these mysterious, ominous words:
“We built this world together, this world where dreams come true, a world where you can be free. But this world is a lie. This world deserves to die. Because this is your world. We’ve lived by your rules long enough.
We can save this world. We can burn it to the ground. From the ashes, build a new world. Our world.”
The trailer shows the same magnificent views of the park as well as some new characters (notably Native American hosts), and then these are contrasted against the cold, dark interiors of the labs and the ongoing struggle as the keepers of the park try to regain control from the rebellious hosts. Some main characters from the first season are shown including Dolores, Maeve (played by Thandie Newton), Bernard (played by Jeffrey Wright), and the Man in Black (played by Ed Harris). The second season is supposed to show other similar-themed parks where the hosts have begun to awaken and rebel against their cruel, human masters.
The first season of Westworld concluded with the robotic hosts of the park taking control and murdering all the humans who had been taking advantage of them. According to a report on the Guardian, Westworld creator Jonathan Nolan expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming season:
“It’s the story of the origin of a new species on this planet…And being able to tell that in chapters and commit to aggressive moves season-by-season that propel that story upwards and outwards and inwards.”
Westworld season two will premiere on April 22, 2018 on HBO.
