Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment is set to introduce the Suicide Squad into their animated universe of DC Comics movies with the release of Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay. Hell to Pay won’t be the first animated Suicide Squad film, though. The last one, Batman: Assault on Arkham, was set in Rocksteady’s Arkham video game franchise, while this one will exist in the same universe as recent films Justice League: War, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, Batman: Bad Blood, and others.
Directed by Sam Liu (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Judas Contract), Hell to Pay stars Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) as Deadshot, Tara Strong (Teen Titans GO!) as Harley Quinn, Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) as Amanda Waller, Liam McIntyre (Spartacus) as Captain Boomerang, and Kristin Bauer van Straten (Once Upon a Time) as Killer Frost, among others. Hell to Pay will see Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., put together Task Force X, a team of super villains, to take down the immortal antagonist Vandal Savage.
While the animation looks sharp and the cast sounds like a good fit, it’s understandable to remain skeptical about the quality of this upcoming addition into the DC animated universe. Other recent additions, some of which directed by Sam Liu himself, have not fared well among fans and critics, including Batman: The Killing Joke and last year’s release of Batman and Harley Quinn. Hopefully, Hell To Pay will serve as a worth addition to the franchise. We’ll find out this March 27th when the film is released digitally and April 10th on 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD.
