Game of Thrones to air final season in 2019

HBO confirmed that the conclusion to the epic saga of Game of Thrones will be airing after a one-year gap.

The last six episodes of the power struggle among the rules of Westeros will only be released after a significantly longer period. Fans already had to wait a few months more than usual last year when the seventh season aired in July (as opposed to the traditional April release).

And now, the HBO hit that attracts over million viewers in the United States alone, and a legion of fans worldwide, will need some more time in production before the last chapters roll out.

According to a report by The Guardian, production on the final season began in October last year and filming is expected to continue until mid-2018.

HBO head of programming Casey Bloys also added that multiple endings will be filmed to avoid leaks or hacks about how the long journey ends.

Game of Thrones posterGame of Thrones continues the epic saga of the warring families of Westeros and their struggle to gain control of the Iron Throne. At the end of the last season, Cersei Lannister pretended to form an alliance with her rivals for the throne, in order to face the bigger and more immediate threat of the White Walkers taking over the land. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow formed an alliance of their own, one that might have very complicated consequences especially when Jon’s true identity comes to light. And back in the North, Daenerys’ dead dragon has been transformed into an ice-zombie dragon and the Wall that had been protecting the Seven Kingdoms from the White Walkers for generations has just been destroyed.

There is still so much that needs to happen in order to wrap up this amazing series. And the showrunners also expressed their plans to make the final season truly spectacular.

So now the wait begins for what remains of Game of Thrones. See you in 2019.
