Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have announced the first ever DC in D.C. – an upcoming pop culture event taking place Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, described as an event which “brings together the worlds of entertainment and public service to illuminate the story of America and discuss topical current issues through the lens of comics and Super Heroes.” DC in D.C. will take place on January 12th and January 13th, 2018 at the Newseum located in Washington, D.C.
While more participants are to be announced, DC in D.C. currently features a slew of stars, producers, and creators that will be attending panel discussions. Stars from The CW’s upcoming series, Black Lightning, will be there including Cress Williams, China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, Marvin “Krondon” Jones III, Damon Gupton, and James Remar, as well as executive producers Salim Akil & Mara Brock Akil. Addtionally, other DCTV stars will be in attendance including Caity Lotz (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Candice Patton (The Flash), Danielle Panabaker (The Flash), J.W. Cortes (Gotham), and Russell Tovey (Freedom Fighters: The Ray), as well as DCTV producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Fans of DC Comics can also look forward to seeing some of the publisher’s top creators including Jim Lee, DC Comics President and CCO Geoff Johns, screenwriter John Ridley, and current Batman ongoing scribe Tom King, just to name a few.
One highlight of DC in D.C. includes the world premiere screening of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – the upcoming animated adaptation directed by Sam Liu (Batman and Harley Quinn), available on digital platforms January 23, 2018 and Blu-ray/DVD February 6, based on the DC Comics one-shot created by Brian Augusty and Mike Mignola. The screening will take place on Friday, January 12th. Check out a brand new clip from Gotham by Gaslight here:
Another highlight from DC in D.C. will be an invitation-only sneak peek screening of Black Lightning – the next DCTV series based on “the first African-American DC Super Hero to have his own stand-alone comic title” starring Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie, Friday Night Lights) in the lead. This screening will take place Saturday, January 13th at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and the series itself will premiere on The CW shortly after the DC in D.C. event on Tuesday, January 16th.
