Miles Morales Arrives in First Trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

Sony Pictures Animation has revealed the first official teaser for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The LEGO Movie) and directed by Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) and Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince), Into the Spider-Verse will feature the big screen debut of Miles Morales/Spider-Man, voiced by Shameik Moore (The Get Down, Dope).

Following the death of Peter Parker in Marvel Comics’ “Ultimate” line, Miles Morales was initially introduced in 2011 by writer Brian Michael Bendis as Peter’s successor. Since then Miles has gone on to become his own Spider-Man featured in Marvel’s main 616 universe and has gained popularity through solo comics, cameos in the animated series, Ultimate Spider-Man, and an upcoming cameo in Insomniac Games’ Playstation 4 Spider-Man title.

While Miles has become a fan favorite among comic book readers in recent years, it’s now time for the rest of the world to be introduced to him. Based on the teaser, Into the Spider-Verse may follow a similar arc as the comics, having Miles take up the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker’s death. Additionally, he probably won’t be the only Spider-Man we’ll be seeing, as the movie may introduce Spider-Men from multiple universes, including a version of Peter Parker himself hinted at in the teaser’s conclusion. The film may also be taking cues from the 2012 mini-series, Spider-Men, written by Brian Michael Bendis, and/or the crossover event series, Spider-Verse, written by long time Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to release in theaters December 2018. Check out the official teaser below and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
