Good news, Orville fans! FOX has renewed Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville for a second season only seven episodes into its first season run. Revealed in a tweet earlier today, the following statement was made concerning the series’ future:
BOOM! 💥 Thanks to you, #TheOrville has been renewed for Season 2! 🚀 pic.twitter.com/LABhSAAIZc

The Star Trek-inspired series seems to have struck a chord with hardcore Trekkies and science fiction fans alike, delivering stories comparable more to classic episodes of The Next Generation rather than other Seth MacFarlane-created comedies like Family Guy or Ted. While the series hasn’t been without its humor, each episode feels more like traditional science fiction. This is thanks to Seth’s obvious love of the genre as well as the inclusion of writers and producers Brannon Braga and David A. Goodman, who have worked on numerous Star Trek titles in their respective careers. At times playing out like an episode of The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror, The Orville has successfully tackled stories about gender identity, religion, and the potential dangers of social media technology, while also delivering doses of comedy with characters that feel genuine and dynamic.
Ecstatic about the renewel, Seth MacFarlane has appropriately thanked the fans for their support:
