Disney Pushed for ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ S5 Renewal

Now we know one party for sure to thank for making sure we get a fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: the Disney big bosses themselves.

According to a report from Variety, some of the folks at ABC were less than enthusiastic about renewing SHIELD after its fourth season. However, Disney stepped in and demanded that it not be canceled. As the article says:

Earlier this year, the mandate came down from Disney for ABC to renew its other Marvel drama, Agents of SHIELD, despite the desire by some at the network to end the series after four seasons. Having aired on Tuesdays since its inception, SHIELD is shifting to Friday nights this season when Inhumans finishes its initial eight-episode run.

It seems like a positive thing to learn that Disney wants a fifth season from our favorite SHIELD agents, despite hesitation from some of those involved at the network. Whether this is the show’s final season or not, hopefully the showrunners and writers will now have enough time to finish it in the best way possible.

And speaking of that upcoming season, EW has given us a first look at a teaser poster to whet our appetites for what’s next. If you recall, the showrunners have already told us there’s a time jump after the season four finale, and that the team is in space. Now we have our first glimpse of that new location. Check out the poster below:

Doesn’t exactly look warm and comforting, does it?

Agents of SHIELD will air its new season later this year on ABC.
