WATCH: Red Band Trailer for Live Action Adaptation of ‘Blade of the Immortal’

An all new red band trailer for legendary Japanese director Takashi Miike’s 100th feature film has been released online. Based on the manga of the same name, Blade of the Immortal, or Mugen no jûnin, is directed by Miike (Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins) with a screenplay written by Death Note (2006) scribe Tetsuya Oishi.

Like the manga and anime that came after, the film follows a Samurai by the name of Manji (Takuya Kimura) who is unable to be killed. In the film Manji comes across Rin Asano (Hana Sugisaki), for whom Manji vows to avenge the deaths of her parents.

While Blade of the Immortal was already released theatrically in Japan back in April 2017, the film is set for limited release in U.S. theaters this November 3 thanks to Magnet Releasing, followed by a digital and physical media release later that same month.

Though not as well received as Miike’s 2011 Samurai epic 13 Assassins, Blade of the Immortal has received mostly favorable reviews currently scoring a 67% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That score can very well change for better or for worse when it’s further released this November.
