Lionsgate Releases First Trailer for ‘Jigsaw,’ the 8th Film in the ‘Saw’ Franchise

Seven years after what was seemingly the franchise’s final installment, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, Lionsgate has unveiled a brand new premiere trailer for the eighth addition to the Saw franchise, Jigsaw. The film will see a copycat Killer take up the mantle of Jigsaw, given that antagonist John Kramer, the original Jigsaw, actually died way back in Saw III. Despite Kramer being deceased for 10 years, evidence, including blood found under the fingernails of Jigsaw’s latest victims, seems to suggest otherwise.

This latest installment is directed by The Spierig Brothers, whose previous films include Daybreakers and the critically well-received Predestination. The screenplay is written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, who have both collaborated on the horror films Piranha 3D, Piranha 3DD, and Sorority Row.

Jigsaw stars Callum Keith Rennie (The Man in the High Castle) and Laura Vandervoort (Bitten, Supergirl) among others, including returning franchise star Tobin Bell, who will most likely appear as John Kramer in flashback or voiceover. Unless the film decides to go the supernatural route and bring the character back from the dead, or reveal Kramer has a twin brother.

In comparison to other Saw films, Jigsaw seems to be a bit tamer and cleaner than its predecessors, judging from this first trailer. Check it out below and feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments. Jigsaw releases in theaters October 27, 2017.
