The unique Netflix sci-fi drama, Sense8, will give fans closure in an upcoming two-hour special, to wrap up its storylines.
Sense8 creator Lana Wachowski made the announcement on Thursday that the show would be given a proper finale, due to the clamor from fans. Wachowski posted a heartfelt letter of thanks to all those who supported the show. She said that she had “never worked so hard” or put “so much of herself” into a project. She also expressed her appreciation for all the fans:
“Your love has brought Sense8 back to life. (I could kiss every single one of you!)”
The show was previously cancelled by Netflix after two seasons. According to the Guardian:
“Netflix said the show did not attract a large enough audience to justify the $9m per episode cost of filming across nine countries, but the decision caused outrage among LGBTI viewers who took the cancellation of a show with a diversity of LGBTI characters, during the first week of pride month, as an affront.”
All episodes of the second season of Sense8 were released last month, following a Christmas special last year and the first season’s premiere in 2015. As previously reported, Sense8 tells the story of eight individuals from all over the world who suddenly discover that they share an inexplicably powerful bond. They have shared visions and experiences and can communicate with each other directly despite geographical distance. The series was well-received by both fans and critics, and the twelve episodes of the first season were streamed by millions of viewers.
According to a post by a Netflix representative, the streaming service “decided to give Sense8 fans the ending they totally deserve.”
Sense8 stars Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, Terrence Mann, Naveen Andrews, and Daryl Hannah.
