Watch the trailer for Marshall starring Chadwick Boseman

MarshallChadwick Boseman stars as a real-life hero, Thurgood Marshall, in a film about the first African-American Supreme Court justice.

Before he kicks ass as Marvel’s Black Panther, Boseman will be playing Marshall in a film about the early career of the great lawyer, directed by Reginald Hudlin, before his historic case, Brown v. Board of Education. The movie follows one case where Marshall defends a black chauffer named Joseph Spell, played by Sterling K. Brown (The People v. O.J. Simpson, This is Us, and also Black Panther), who was accused of sexual assault and attempted murder by his employer, Eleanor Strubing, played by Kate Hudson.

“The only way to get through a bigot’s door is to break it down,” Boseman declares in the trailer and it looks like this courtroom drama will be more action-packed than most.

The film also stars Josh Gad, Dan Stevens, and James Cromwell.

MarshallAccording to Collider, here is the official synopsis of the film:

Long before he sat on the United States Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) was a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP. The new motion picture, MARSHALL, is the true story of his greatest challenge in those early days – a fight he fought alongside attorney Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), a young lawyer with no experience in criminal law: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.

Marshall opens on October 13, 2017.
