Watch the American Assassin trailer

Dylan O’Brien stars in this new spy thriller, American Assassin, the first trailer for which has just been released.

According to Collider, the film is based on a best-selling novel by Vince Flynn. O’Brien (The Maze Runner, Teen Wolf) stars as a CIA black ops recruit named Mitch Rapp, who must investigate “a wave of terrorist attacks on civilian and military targets and finds himself wrapped up in a mission to prevent a world war.”

Some real high stakes stuff here and from the looks of the trailer, the action is intense and O’Brien is credible as a rising action star. He apparently shot this movie after recovering from an incident during the production of Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Michael Keaton also stars as a veteran “warrior” who becomes a mentor to Mitch.

American Assassin also stars Sanaa Lathan, Shiva Negar, and Taylor Kitsch.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

American Assassin will open on September 15.
