Luther Idris ElbaIdris Elba will be reprising his role as London homicide detective John Luther for a fifth season on BBC America.

According to a report by Variety, BBC America has ordered a new, four-episode season of Luther. The last time we saw DCI John Luther in action was in a two-part special in December 2015.

Luther creator Neil Cross told Variety that the title character has a lot of “unfinished business” to resolve in the coming season. Cross also said, “Because we love John and wonder what he’s up to…In the end, we picked up the phone to some old friends and asked if they’d like to find out what happens next. It turns out, they would. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to find out what happens next.”

Elba also expressed his excitement about the project. “I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together. I look forward to putting the coat back on.”

BBC America president Sarah Barnett likewise talked about the upcoming season and the show in general. “Luther is compulsive, unnerving television…Neil Cross, Idris Elba and the team are geniuses and we all wait with bated breath to see what happens next in this blindingly brilliant show.”

The crime drama started back in 2010 and has since gathered numerous awards and nominations for the Emmys, the Golden Globes, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, Crime Thriller Awards, Satellite, and NAACP Image Awards. Idris Elba has gained acclaim for the role, winning the Golden Globe in 2012 for lead actor in a miniseries or movie as well as the 2016 Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries and the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie.
