Marvel Comics Relaunches ‘Runaways’ Ahead of Hulu Series Debut

Runaways Series Announcement

As Hulu prepares to bring Marvel Comics’ teenage heroes, the Runaways, to the small screen, Marvel has announced plans to relaunch an all-new Runaways ongoing comic book series ahead of the Hulu series debut.

Originally created by writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) and artist Adrian Alphona (Ms. Marvel), Runaways follows a group of teenagers from different backgrounds who team up after discovering their parents are super villains. The upcoming relaunch will be written by Rainbow Rowell (Eleanor & Park) with art by Kris Anka (Starlord).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rowell didn’t go much into the details of the first story arc, but implied the series will stay true to the original framework established by Vaughan and Alphona, stating:

It’s kind of like The Force AwakensWhen you go to see a Star Wars movie, you’re not gonna want them to totally shift everything up and give you a whole new universe. You want the Star Wars universe you love and then great stories inside of it. That’s how I feel about Runaways. I don’t need to do anything to them other than telling great stories with them.

Runaways #1 is set to hit comic book stores and digital platforms this September 2017. Check out a few character teasers for the upcoming title below and feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
