Sense8 cancelled after two seasons

Sense8Netflix has announced that there will be no more episodes of the global sci-fi drama, Sense8.

IGN reports that the streaming service has officially cancelled the show, in a statement by Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content:

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

All episodes of the second season of Sense8 were released last month, following a Christmas special last year and the first season’s premiere in 2015. As previously reported, Sense8 tells the story of eight individuals from all over the world who suddenly discover that they share an inexplicably powerful bond. They have shared visions and experiences and can communicate with each other directly despite geographical distance. The series was well-received by both fans and critics, and the twelve episodes of the first season were streamed by millions of viewers. The series was created by J. Michael Straczynski with Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix, Jupiter Ascending).

Sense8 stars Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, Terrence Mann, Naveen Andrews, and Daryl Hannah.

This is sad news indeed for all the fans of the show who have come to love the eight lead characters (forming a “cluster”). The unique story, global setting, and compelling characters set Sense8 apart from anything currently on television and it is a pity that the story will no longer continue.
