Once Upon a Time season 7 details revealed

After the departure of many main cast members, Once Upon a Time season seven will be a kind of reboot for the series.

With the departure of Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jared Gilmore, Rebecca Mader, and Emilie de Ravin, the only main cast members who will be continuing in the next season are Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, and Colin O’Donoghue. The end of the season six showed an adult Henry Mills being invited by his daughter Lucy on a new adventure.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz discussed their plans for the next season. On whether the season is a reboot, Horowitz said:

“I hesitate to use the word “reboot.” We’re more thinking about it as a hybrid of a lot of things. We’re paying homage to the original premise, but there are certain characters who are returning and some who are not. It’s a combination of a lot of things, but what we’re trying to do is go in a new direction but stay true to the spirit of what the show has always been.”

They also revealed other details like admitting that they would be casting the adult versions of younger characters, they would be introducing Lucy’s mother, and that there will be more recurring characters.

Kitsis said:

“Everybody has said they’d be willing to come back. As our show is and has been for six years, we see people come back all the time. Rose McIver came back and she is the lead of her own show, so we hope to be seeing everybody.”

Horowitz added:

“While we tried to really wrap up a lot of their stories and give a nice send off to these characters we’ve loved being with for six years, they’re still part of the universe, so hopefully we’ll be seeing different people at different times.”

Given the expansive world of Once Upon a Time and the endless possibilities for source material, there will always be a lot of creative directions the show can take. For now, we will just have to wait and see what the future will bring.
